"[Petruchio] and Kate are married beneath black umbrellas, and she arrives at his home in a filthy white dress and a man's jacket, looking like an Irish potato famine refugee at Ellis Island, her face growing gaunter by the minute. This production, set in a Mafioso-type 1930s Italy...some of the devices work better than others: no marks for the pantomime horse, or the flashyly anachronistic Honda motorbike, but the Salvation Army-type band is a redemption."
